I thought my computer was done for

Well, almost no sooner had someon e brought up the topic about not being able to do without their computer, I had the biggest computer scare I've ever had. I was just typing an installment to my story, when the computer just up and froze. I've had it freeze before, but not when I was just writing a story. The worst part of it was, when I tried to reboot, the computer shut its self down twice when I tried rebooting. I have a surge protecter, and there's that one button that turns the power on, then I pushthe button on the computer for it to start. When it shut down twice, I told mom it wouldn't restart, it just shut down before the process was completed. when the computer freezes up, I turn it off through the surge protecter. My mom pressed the reset button while the power button on the surge protector was pushed in, and it came up with the message that windows failed to start, and it wanted us to go into safe mode. Neither of us know anything about safe mode, I've heard about it, but never really learned about it, since safe mode isn't accessible with jaws. She asked what I wanted her to do, since there was the ok button, cancel, and advanced button. I didn't really know, but I told her to hit cancel. she asked what if it canceled everything. I said, I don't know, press ok then. it went in to safe mode and gave that thing about going into safe mode, so we could fix the problem with the minimum amount of drivers. It said somee of the devices may not be available. We have no idea what devices aren't available in safe mode, and it just said the problem could've been with the network, which we don't have, or hardware settings. All it told her to do was to go in control panel and verify that the setting werre correct. We weren't getting anywhere, so mom somehow made it to the start menu, and shut down. We waited a few minutes, then I restarted, and things were back to normal. I don't know why the computer even froze while I was just writing a story, but sometimes it seems when I type, jaws 6 can't keep up with my typing, and sometimes there's a delay between when I tyype a letter, and the time it takes jaws to say the letters I typed, so I decided to go in config manager and turn typing echo off so jaws won't read aloud what I type. I thought maybe that would lighten some of jaws burden. I notice it seems really sluggish when I'm typing in quick notes, so maybe this will help. I might need to turn public notes on to test it out, and hopefully I'll be able to type faster, since jaws doesn't have the work of repeating every key as I type it.
It waas a real nightmare, especially since neitherr mom or I knew what we were doing. I think safe mode is for geeks who know what they're doing, which definitely isn't me, lol.
